    Stephen Tope, son of George Tope and Catherine Straddler, was born 10 February 1801 (twin to Jacob) in Salem, Jefferson Co., Ohio [note 1], and died 26 September 1871 in Harrison Twp. Carroll Co., Ohio [note 2]. He married Jemima Kail, daughter of Gabriel Kail and Elizabeth Betsy Devore [note 3], on 19 September 1824 in Carroll Co., Ohio.  Jemima was born November 1806 in Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio [note 4], and died 3 October 1870 in Harrison Twp. Carroll Co., Ohio [note 5]. Stephen and Jemima are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio.

    Stephen and Jemima had nine chldren:

1. Martha Tope married Isaac B. Tripp on 17 October 1865 in Carroll Co., Ohio [note 6]. Isaac was born 3 April 1844 in Orange Township, Carroll Co., Ohio, and died 26 February 1904 in Leesville, Carroll Co., Ohio [note 7].
Martha and Isaac had five children.
1. James Addison Tripp married a Miss Easterday.
2. Cora May Tripp.
3. Herbert Tripp. 
4. Joseph R. Tripp
5. Jasper Bert Tripp was born 24 May 1878 in Carroll County, Ohio, married Margaret Jane Gartrell.  Margaret was born in 1880 and died in 1905.
   1. Edna Mae Tripp was born10 March 1902 in Stark Co., Ohio and died 13 Jan 1931.  She married Charles Franklin Gamble. He was born19 November 1901 and died 9 February 1968.
   2. Remus Tripp.
2. Mary Tope.
3. Sarah Tope was born 7 January 1829 and died 6 January 1906 [note 8].  Sarah married William Davis on 25 March 1852 in Carroll Co., Ohio [note 9].  William died 28 May 1894 in Union Twp, Carroll Co., Ohio.
   Sarah and William had eight children:


1. -- Davis died young before 1896.
2. Martha Davis.
3. Thomas Davis married Florence Shotwell before 1896.
4. David Davis married Cory Sells before 1896.
5. Beldon Davis married Josephine Thorley before 1896.
6. Stephen Davis.
7. Mary Ann Davis married John McKnight before 1896.
8. John Davis as born  before 1896.
4. Louisa Tope was born 7 January 1831, Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio [note 10] and died on 19 June 1871, Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio [note 11]. She is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Carroll Co., Ohio.
5.  JacksonTope.
6. Jasper Tope was born in 1825 and died 3 March 1923 in, Union Twp, Carroll Co., Ohio [note 5].  He married Rebecca J. Brackin  on 22 October 1857 in Carroll Co., Ohio.  Rebecca was born in 1838 and died 7 January 1924, Union Twp, Carroll Co., Ohio [note 12].  Jasper and Rebecca are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio.
7. Jacob William Tope
8. Maria Tope was born 1 January 1841 in Carroll Co., Ohio, and died 3 January 1913 in Christian Co., Illinois [note 13].  She married John Sheperd Butterfield. John was born on 1 Jan 1841 in Carroll Co., Ohio, and died 10 Aug 1916 in Chhristian Co., Illinois [note 14]. Maria is buried in the Fairview Cemetery.
   Maria and John had three children
   1. Albert Clinton Butterfield.
   2. Eva Etta Butterfield.
   3. Harvey Stephen Butterfield married a Miss Emory.
9. George B. Tope.
