   James Burns Tope, son of Lucretia Tope, was born on 27 November 1853 in Virginia, and died on 21 October 1919.  He married Mary B. McCrea on 9 January 1878.  Mary was born on 15 October 1859 and died on 4 November 1924.

James and Mary had ten children:

1. George Taylor Tope was born 10 October 1878, and died on 24 March 1956.
2. Inez Tennessee Tope was born 21 October 1880, and died on 12 January 1881.
3. Ethel May Tope was born 4 November 1882 and died on 14 August 1921.
4. Harry Earl Tope was born 24 September 1884 and died on 1 April 1963.
5. James Alfred Tope was born 11 February 1886 and died on 15 February 1938.
6. Marie Ida Tope was born 29 May 1892 and died on June 1942.
7. Robert Leonard Tope was born 23 November 1894 and died on 10 October 1974 in Mount Pleasant, Isabella Co., Michigan [note 1].
8. Margaret Edith Tope was born about 1904 [note 2].
9. Mable Tope was born 12 April 1905 in West Virginia, and died 1 March 1995 in Butler Co., Ohio.  She married -- Newlin. [note 3].
