TOPE FAMILY PAGE

    Jacob Tope, son of George Tope and Catherine Straddler, was born 10 February 1801 (twin to Stephen) in Salem, Jefferson Co., Ohio [note 1], and died 6 January 1877 in Carroll Co., Ohio. He married Catherine Kail, daughter of George Kail  [note 2], on 19 September 1824 in Carroll Co., Ohio.  Catherine was born 20 December 1816 in Carroll Co., Ohio [note 3], and died 27 February 1889 in Carroll Co., Ohio. Jacob and Catherine are buried in St. Luke Cemetery, Carroll Co., Ohio.

    Jacob and Catherine had five chldren:

1. Lavina Tope died unmarried at an early age.
2. Hiram James Tope was born 24 December 1825.  He married Nancy A. McHugh on 3 September 1857 in New Hagerstown, Carroll Co., Ohio.  They moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee about 1866.
   Hiram and Nancy had two children:
1. John C. Tope was born 19 February 1858. He married Elda Dunlap and they had four children:
   1. Thomas Earl Tope was born 2 May 1887.
   2. Sherly Tope was born 17 Mar 1889.
   3. Alton Tope was born 23 July 1891 and died 23 February 1894.
   4. May Tope was born 23 May 1895 and died in March 1896.
2. David R. Tope was borin in May 1859 and married Chloe Ball on 12 November 1893.
3. Ann Tope married David Rainsberger and had one son:
   
1. J.H. Rainsberger who married Frank (sic) Springer.
4. Gabriel Tope married Elizabeth McHugh and they had four children:
1. A daughter died young.
2. Homer W. Tope married Alice Moughiman.
3. Beldon Tope married Daisy Crawford.
4. Thomas Tope married Hattie Rainsberger
5. Thomas J. Tope was born in 1825 and died 3 March 1923 in, Union Twp, Carroll Co., Ohio.  He married Rebecca J. Brackin  on 22 October 1857 in Carroll Co., Ohio.  Rebecca was born in 1838 and died 7 January 1924, Union Twp, Carroll Co., Ohio.  Jasper and Rebecca are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Union Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio.
6. William T. Tope was born in 1848 and died in 1912. He married Rose Garrett who was born in  1852 and died in 1938 [note 4].  William and Rose are buried  in  the Palermo  Cemetery,  Perry Township,  Carroll  County, Ohio. They had three children:
1. Ollie Tope who married Walter Brooks.
2. Ross Tope.
3. Thomas Tope.
