- Annie Simpson was a younger
sister of Susan J. Simpson, who
married Jackson Tope. According to a family story, Albert and Annie
fell in love but were afraid the families would object,
since Susan was now Albert's
step-mother. So they ran
off to get
married. The story goes that Jackson tracked them for two days until he
found them, and convinced them to come home. By that time they were
already married. They did go home for awhile but then moved to Iowa
where their daughter, Clara was born. (source: Natalie Fair Albright,
as told by her grandmother, Clara Pearl Tope)
