G. Tope, son of Henry Tope and Catherine Croghan, was born 1 July
1839 in Carroll Co., Ohio [
note 1],
and died 1900
in Carroll Co., Ohio. He
married Mary A.
Shultz , daughter of Solomon
Shultz
and Rachel
(Shultz), on 19 June 1862 in Harrison Co., Ohio. Mary was
born in 1839 in Harrison
Co., Ohio, and died in 1935 in Carroll Co., Ohio.
Dr. H.G. Tope of Perrysville,
a physician and surgeon, advertised that he also was a dealer in
medicine, chemicals, perfumery, glass, putty, paints, oils, varnishes,
dye stuffs, soaps, combs, brushes, trusses, hair oils and articles
usually kept by druggists [note 2].
Hiram and Mary had two children:
- Cadmus Ambrose Tope was born about 1864 in Carroll Co.,
Ohio and died 1 January 1940 in Carrollton, Carroll Co, Ohio [note 2].
He married Ella Beamer, daughter of Philip Beamer and Sarah Eick on 1
January 1885. Ella was born in 1860 and died in September
1938.
He operated a hardware store in
Carrollton for more than forty years
and was formerly associated with his brother-in-law, Mr. Wallace
Beamer, but in 1918 he acquired Mr. Beamer's interest and
continued to operate the business until shortly before his death. He
served the Carroll County Agricultural Society as secretary for 20
years. He was also a show horse judge and traveled over Ohio, Illinois
and Indiana judging horses at county fairs and other shows.
In 1923, Cadmus was
president of the Ohio Hardware Association and until the time of his
death was a director in the Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. of Coshocton.
He was a member of the Carrollton Methodist Church and was a teacher
in the Sunday School for about 30 years. He was also a charter member
of the Carrollton Rotary Club [note
3].
Cadmus and Ella are buried
in Grandview cemetery.
- Ulysses Irenaeus Tope was born 8
November 1870 and died 15 December 1938 in Carroll Co., Ohio
[note
4]. He married
Catherine Ann Calcott, daughter of Benjamin Calcott and Jannette
McLandsborough on 222 January 1902. Catherine was born 26
August 1872 in Stone Creek, Ohio and died 23 January 1948.
