   Eli M. Tope, son of George Tope and Maria Elizabeth Bower, [note 1]was born 10 May 1815 in Carroll County, 0hio, and died 6 August 1894 [note 2]. He may be buried in Mountain Ridge Cemetery, in Jackson County, Ohio. Eli married Catharine Davis, daughter of Joshua and Isabel Davis, on 23 March 1837 [note 3]. The family moved to Jackson county in 1853, where they settled in a logcabin, and where Eli continued to work as a blacksmith ]note 4]. Catherine died 15 September 1854 [note 5]in Jackson County, Ohio. 
   Eli next married  Margaret Tope, daughter of John and Mary Tope on 29 April 1858 of Jackson county, 0hio. Margaret was born about 11 May 1830, and died 11 August 1890 [note 6].

2. Isabel Tope was born in November 1843 in Carroll Co., Ohio [note 7], and married James H. Heath on 19 August 1866, Ross Co., Ohio.
3. George F. Tope was born in 1844 in Carroll Co., Ohio.  He married Lucinda House on 29 March 1877 in Jackson Co., Ohio.
4. Hiram Marion Tope was born 2 February 1847 in Carroll Co., Ohio. He died 16 July 1918 in Jackson Co., Ohio [note 8].   He married  Eliza Coy.
5. Davis Tope was born about 1849.  He married Mary Catherine Rapp on 31 March 1875 in Jackson Co., Ohio.
6. Joshua H. Tope was born about 1851, Carroll Co., Ohio.

1. John N. Tope married Mary M. Dykes (Dukes) on 12 July 1885 in Pike Co., Ohio.
2. James Jefferson Tope was born 10 March 1857 in Jackson Co., Ohio.  He married Esther Brown on 12 February 1880.  Esther was born in 1862 and died in 1885.  James later  married Lucinda Overly on 4 September 1887 in Jackson Co., Ohio.  Lucinda was born 23 February 1865 and died 1 August 1918.
   James and Esther  had one child:
      Herbert C. Tope was born in 1881 and died December 5, 1969.  He      married Mabel --- in 1901.  They had two sons: Herbert Tope and        Robert Tope.
   James and Lucinda had four children: Orville Tope, James Beach              Tope, Roy L. Tope, and Leland Tope.[note 9].
3. Martha Ellen was born 4 May 1859 in Jackson Co., Ohio.  She married Samuel Rapp.
4. Ezra Newton was born 5 October 1860 in  Jackson Co., Ohio.
5. Mary Emma was born 13 September 1864, Jackson Co., Ohio.  She married James Sheridan on 12 March 1885 in Jackson Co., Ohio.
6. Jacob Elmer Tope was born 29 April 1866 in Jackson Co., Ohio.  He married Sarah C. Hopper.
7. Oscar Alonco Tope was born 16 October 1868, Jackson Co., Ohio.  He married to Annie L. House.
8. Catherine Ida Tope was born 9 July 1870 in Liberty Twp., Jackson Co., Ohio.  She married Lewis Rapp.
9. Alvin Douglas Tope
10. Cary Maggie Tope was born 5 Feb 1873, Liberty Twp. in Jackson Co., Ohio.
