TOPE FAMILY PAGE

   Charles Wilders Tope, son of Lucretia Tope, was born on 2 February 1867 in New Cumberland, Hancock County, West Virginia.  He died on 10 August 1943 in Burgettstown, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Charles married Amanda Jane Chambers, who was born in 1871 in New Cumberland, Hancock County, West Virginia, and died in 1950 in Pennsylvania [note 1].
    The family farm was in Frankfurt Springs, Pennsylvania, near Weirton, West Virginia on the Pennsylvania/West Virginia stateline. Oil was found on the farm and Charles leased the farm and moved the family to Center Ave. in Burgettstown, West Virginia [note 2].
    Charles and Jane had three children:

1. Alice Tope married Robert Leckey of Hickory, Pennsylvania. They had one child, Jean Leckey, who married Wayne Scott.   Jean and Wayne did not have children due to his early death in the navy about 1944.
2. Olive Ann Tope was born 10 July 1893 in Midway, Washington Co., Pennsylvania, and died 20 July 1977 in Washington, Washington Co., Pennsylvania [note 3].  She married Ralph Leroy Bell, son of William Kerr Bell and Elizabeth Elrich Borts, on 15 May 1916 in Butler, Butler Co., Pennsylvania [note 4].  Ralph was born 9 December 1893 in Peterville, Butler Co., Pennsylvania, and died 17 June 1962 in Washington, Washington Co., Pennsylvania [note 5].  Ralph was postmaster of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania for many years.
3. Charles Warren Tope was born on 20 May 1901 in Five Points, Washington County, Pennsylvania.   He married Helene Adoleta Ballard on 21 July 1921 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. Helene was born on 28 February 1900 in Midway, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
       Charles and Helene had three children:
   1. Charles Wilders Tope was born in Midway, Washington County, Pennsylvania.  He married Mary Stone [note 6].
   2. Donald Robert Tope was born on 3 March 1924 in Burgettstown, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and died on 23 August 2000 in Stuart, Martin Co., Florida.  He married Marjorie Edith Bertrand on 5 October 1943 at a Lutheran Church in Wheeling, West Virginia. [note 7].
   3. Doris Jane Tope was born 12 July 1931 in Burgettstown, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and died 17 February 1998 in Dallas, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania [note 8].  She married John Henry McCain [note 9].
