Cadmus Ambrose Tope, son of
Hiram G. Tope and Mary A. Shultz, was born about 1864 in Carroll Co.,
Ohio and died 1 January 1940 in Carrollton, Carroll Co, Ohio [
note 1].
He married Ella Beamer, daughter of Philip Beamer and Sarah Eick on 1
January 1885. Ella was born in 1860 and died in September
1938.
He operated a hardware store in
Carrollton for more than forty years
and was formerly associated with his brother-in-law, Mr. Wallace
Beamer, but in 1918 he acquired Mr. Beamer's interest and
continued to operate the business until shortly before his death. He
served the Carroll County Agricultural Society as secretary for 20
years. He was also a show horse judge and traveled over Ohio, Illinois
and Indiana judging horses at county fairs and other shows.
In 1923, Cadmus was
president of the Ohio Hardware Association and until the time of his
death was a director in the Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. of Coshocton.
He was a member of the Carrollton
Methodist Church and was a teacher
in the Sunday School for about 30 years. He was also a charter member
of the Carrollton Rotary Club [

Ella
was
an active church
worker, being a life-long member of the Carrollton Methodist Episcopal
church. Devotion to
her faith prompted
her to read the Bible through 21 times, first as a girl of 12 and the
21st
during her last illness. Ella, a
resident of Carrollton
for 50 years, was also a member of the Missionary Society and the
Women's Christian Temperance Unit [

Cadmus
and Ella are buried
in Grandview cemetery.
Cadmus and Ella had two children:
- Mary Ethel Tope was born in 12 March 1887 in Carrollton,
Carroll
Co., Ohio and died in 30 May 1962 [note 4].
She married Ralph Melville Stewart, who was born 19 January 1884 in
Perry, Carroll Co., Ohio, and died 23 February 1974 in Alliance, Stark
Co., Ohio [note 5].
They had one child.
- Sarah Leona Tope was born in 1893 and died 22 March 1969
in Massillon, Stark Co., Ohio [note
6]. She married Roy Davis
Vasbinder, who was born 5 November 1891 in Carroll Co., Ohio [note
7]. Roy died 26 October 1957 in an ambulance on
the way to the Canton Hospital [note 8]
