ELSIE LEORA KEAR

    Elsie Leora Kear, daughter of Mary Catherine Tope and Robert Thomas Kear, was born 11 April 1871 in Van Wert, Ohio [note], and died 2 March 1918 in Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan. She married James Monroe Athey on 11 October 1889. James was born in September 1866 in Cuba, Clinton County, Ohio, and died 17 April 1931 in Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan.

    Elsie and James had seven children:

1. Raymond Melville Athey, born 22 April 1890, Van Wert, Van Wert County, Ohio, died 19 July 1907, Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan by drowning.
2. Carl Lynden Athey, born 8 October 1896, died 22 August 1970, married Mary Kalerta on 15 September 1928.
3. Vivian Eulilia Athey, born 4 February 1900, Alverton, Ohio, died 24 September 1972, Chicago, Cook Couinty, Illinois; married John Gerald Kolenburg, 21 May 1922. John was born 8 October 1899 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and died 26 January 1974 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Vivian and John are buried in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
4. Lucille Genevieve Athey, born 12 May 1905, Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan. Married Roy Thomas Miller on 22 April 1926. Roy was born 3 March 1900 in Decatur, Michigan, and died 5 November 1972. Lucille and Roy are buried in Memorial Gardens, Arlington Heights, Illinois.
5. Ruth Carey Athey born 21 May 1908 in Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan. She married Henry William King on 23 July 1926. He was born 1 April 1905 and died 30 September 1958. Ruth and Henry are buried in East Side Cemetery, Michigan.
6. Robert James Athey born 18 February 1910 in Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan, and died 22 December 1972. He married Hildegard Phillips on 12 June 1937.
7. David Leroy Athey was born 26 February 1912 in Decatur, Van Buren Co., Michigan, and died June 1981. He married Ethel Marion Gradine.
